Reasons to Visit Macau

If you really want to maximize the fun and adventure of your travels, why not go somewhere that is not as well-known or not as visited? Maybe somewhere that’s not as heavy of a tourist trap? Maybe somewhere more on a budget?

Honestly, are heavily touristy areas actually fun? There are always crowds, there are always lines, and, of course, there’s the risk of overspending, getting pickpocketed, and so much more. While Hong Kong is known and gets millions of visitors per year (understandably so), it has a neighbor that doesn’t get the same recognition that it deserves, the very beautiful Macau.

Macau beckons travelers with its unique blend of cultures, rich history, and vibrant energy. But yet, it still doesn’t get the love and praise it deserves like Hong Kong has. While sure, it’s often referred to as the “Las Vegas of Asia,” even this shouldn’t deter anyone away, and just like Las Vegas, there’s so much to see and experience in Macau.

On top of that, it’s not even far; if you’re telling yourself that you can only pick between these two locations (as a lot of visitors going to Asia tend to only pick one destination), then just keep in mind that Hong Kong to Macau isn’t even that far by ferry, only an hour. So even for a day trip, it’s definitely worth paying a visit to. So, with that said, there are other reasons why you should visit Macau, and here’s exactly why!

Reasons to Visit Macau: Strong Fusion of Cultures

Did you know that Macau used to be a Portuguese colony? When stepping on the streets of Macau, you’re definitely going to see this unique blend of Portuguese and Chinese architecture; it’s just this beautiful blend that you’re really not going to see anywhere else. In fact, you’ll find cobble-stoned streets, the famous egg tarts, and even colorful buildings, just as Portugal does.

But it’s not just the appearance; the food itself is this unique blend of Portuguese and Chinese cuisine, and Portuguese is even the second language there! This is one of the most unique things about Macau, and not a lot of people know about it, but it’s incredible, and you should experience it for yourself!

Reasons to Visit Macau: So Many Culinary Delights

It’s already been mentioned that Chinese and Portuguese cuisine is super prevalent in Macau, so prevalent there’s this fusion of flavors between both worlds. Egg tarts, which are pretty similar to Pasteis De Nata (but not exactly the same), are left and right, and you definitely have to try some. On top of that, just like in Hong Kong, the street food is incredible, like the famous Pork Chop Buns.

But of course, if you love fine dining, you can count on finding a nice handful of Michelin-star restaurants, too. Basically, whatever cuisine you want, you can find it right in Macau.

Seriously, there is something for every type of traveler out there, even family travel too.
